The
precious
and
versatile
vegetable
tissue
known
as
cork
is
the
outer
bark
of
the
cork
oak
tree
(Quercus
suber
or
as
the
Portuguese
call
it
sobreiro).
Cork
(cortiça)
is
most
easily
stripped
off
the
tree
in
late
spring
and
summer
when
the
cells
are
turgid and fragile and tear .
Portugal
olive
oil
stand
with
the
world's
best,
taking
home
20
awards
at
The
2016
New York International Olive Oil Competition.
You'll be surprised how much you can learn with this tour!
The
day
starts
with
a
visit
to
an
olive
orchard
in
order
to
understand
how
valuable
the
fruit
and
the
oil
has
been
to
humankind,
as
food
as
well
as
energy.
In
the
interior
of
the
olive
mill
the
expertized
guide
talks
about
the
oil
production.
Monterosa
olive
oil
is
famous
across
the
atlantic
and
has
been
prized
several
times
for
its
quality.
The
visit
is
toped
by
a
very
interesting
olive
oil
taste
of
3
varieties.
In
the
afternoon
it's
time
to
learn
more
about
the
secrets
of
cork.
At
an
active
factory
we
are
welcomed
by
another
guide
who,
during
the
briefing,
explains
the
importance
of
cork
to
the
portuguese
economy.
An
interesting
walk
throughout
the
building
is
the
ideal
way
to
visualise
all
the
work
involved
to
make
stoppers
for one of the most famous wine in the world:Champagne!
Do you know that....
It
was
with
cork
fabric
from
Pelcor
that
designer
Teresa
Martins
recently
worked
a
complete
look
that
she
created
for
Lady
Gaga.
Inspired
by
the
music
of
renowned
singer
and
Klimt's
masterpiece,
which
Vienna
paid
homage
to
by
celebrating
his
150th
anniversary,
Teresa
Martins
created
a
cork
dress
veneered
in
gold
and
silver
and
hand-embroidered
with
beads
and
metallic
threads,
recreating
the
textures and compositions that we see in the artist’s paintings.
The
dress
that
symbolizes
the
fusion
between
fashion,
music
and
art
took
2
years
to
be
produced
and
was
offered
to
Lady
Gaga,
who
used
it
at
an
ArtRave
after
the
concert
she
gave
in
Lisbon
in
November
2014.
The
moment
was
so
intense
that
Lady Gaga shared it on social networks.
