Walk & Talk

Faro & Ria Formosa

Meeting at a prearranged location, it’s time to begin the walk. The iconic Arco da Vila serves as a striking gateway into Faro’s old town, where the city’s rich history begins to unfold. Highlights include the cathedral, the bishop’s residence with its phenomenal tile collection, and the pedestrian streets showcasing magnificent pavement and architecture. These are just a few of the many treasures Faro has to reveal.

A visit to the Carmo Church, home to Faro’s well-known Chapel of Bones, offers a moment of quiet reflection within the Walk & Talk tour. Built in the 18th century, this unique space was created by Carmelite monks and stands as a striking reminder of the passage of time and the values of humility and contemplation. Behind the church’s elegant exterior lies a place that invites visitors to pause and consider life from a different perspective. With the guidance and context provided during the tour, this stop becomes not only a point of interest, but a meaningful and memorable experience within the heart of Faro.

Another special point of interest is the Pentateuch, completed on July 30, 1487, the first book printed with movable type in Portugal. Printed in Hebrew by Samuel Gacon, an Algarve printer of Jewish origin, it remains a fascinating historical landmark.

After the walking tour, you have three options: embark on a boat tour of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve to explore its bird sanctuary with a guide; take the ferry to the paradise island of Deserta for lunch and a beach visit; or stay in town to enjoy wine and tapas. Rest assured, I won’t leave until you’re comfortably settled.
