Spend the morning learning about and tasting some of the best varieties of olive oil produced in Algarve: some with a nice fruity sensation of fresh grass and almonds, and others spicy fruit with green and ripe fruit flavours. Discover the olive tree culture, the olive oil production process and the origins of this activity, which date back to roman times!
In the afternoon, octopus becomes the ‘king’. You may choose to eat it at the octopus’ capital, the charming village of Santa Luzia or go to Barril beach, an ancient fishermen’s village, which belongs to the system of islands known as the barrier island. To get to Barril beach you can either go by train or walking, so opting for a healthier and more environmentally friendly travel. The second hypothesis allows also a better observation of wide variety of animal and plant species.
In crossing the marsh, and during low tide, you can see a kind of crab, the Boca Cava-Terra (Uca Tangerine) and some waterfowl, such as Stilt (Himantopus).
Along the dune system we can find species of vegetation as the bulbous Aetheorhiza, the Ammophila arenaria (reversal), the Anagallis monelli, the Armeria pungens (Armeria) and Eryngium maritimum (sea thistle).
Do not forget to bring your sun lotion and beach towel.
